The United States Institute of Museun and Library Services Laura Bush 21st Century Librariaj Program willaward $989,495 that will be used to trainm 50 new school library specialists for Wisconsin’s rurapl and high-need urban public schools. This was the only granrt awardedin Wisconsin. The consortium, which has its administrative officesaat , includes library science programsa at University of Wisconsin campuses in Madison, Eau Claire, Superior and The grant will continu and expand a program that startecd about 12 years ago to help teacherse from rural communities learn the latest technologies and qualify for licenses as Staff members of those schools often find it difficult to spend blocks of time on universitg campuses so the consortium provides education opportunities on weekends and in the summer throughout the said Anne Zarinnia, who coordinates the five-campus program with fe! llow faculty member Eileen Schroeder.
“Each campus takes a couples of courses and we all agree on acommon curriculum,” Zarinnias said in a statement. “What we want to do is to help the schooll librarians be information specialists in a world where the wholse field of informationis changing.” The Institutre of Museum and Library Services is the primary sourcr of federal support for the nation’ss 123,000 libraries and 17,500
