The free tabloid is building on the Examinert brand established by the SanFrancisco Examiner, purchased by Anschutz undef the Clarity name nearly a year ago. The Examine was losing money and readers when Anschutzz bought the paper inFebruarg 2004.
The paper has grown the circulatio nfrom 76,000 at the time of the sale to Clarity has trademarked the Examiner name in 60 citiea including Denver, but Clarity presidengt Ryan McKibben has no immediate plans to launchn any additional papers. Scott McKibben oversaw the San Francisco paper for the Fang familhy and the family alleges he rebuffedf other buyers forcing them to sellto Anschutz' company -- headed by Ryan McKibbe -- for a discountedx price of $20 Ryan McKibben said that lawsuit is frivolousx and does not expect any lawsuits stemmintg from the Journal deal.
